A Private Evaluation Of The Breitling Shadow Flyback
I purchased my Breitling watch about 7 years ago and put on it almost everyday. Despite carrying it almost day-after-day, having gone diving with it, kiteboarded with it, and trekked throughout Australia, Scandinavia and the Far East, it looks pretty much as good at this time because the day I purchased it.
In all honesty I would never heard of Breitling Replica till I went into a retailer to buy a Tag Heuer - everyone I knew seemed to be wearing a Tag and it seemed like the best watch that could possibly be worn both formally and for sport. Anyhow, whereas I was in the division retailer wanting at the Tag collections, the assistant mentioned, that if I appreciated Tag, I might also be all in favour of Breitling.
Well, it was love at first sight. I do know not everyone goes to love Breitling watches. While I think they're lovely, I can understand why some would not like them. They are not as 'rounded' as others like Tag or Seconda. Though fashionable, they've a certain quaint, more durable-edged style to them. I learned later that most collections of Breitling watches have been designed over 50 years in the past and, despite some adjustments to the actions and minor aesthetic modifications, they are just about the identical wristwatch as they had been 50 years ago.
The Shadow Flyback I bought options an ETA 2892-A2 mechanical movement. The movement is a chronograph, is computerized and has a flyback complication. Most stopwatch second fingers could be stopped after which set to zero; with a flyback complication the second hand might be reset to zero with out stopping the timer - it continues to run from the zero position. The ability reserve of the movement is forty two hours.
Like all watches in the Breitling Windrider collection, the bezel is raised and is unidirectional - it isn't a diver's watch where the bezel is one-directional. Nonetheless, the watch is waterproof to 100mm - I've been diving with this watch to a depth of 20 meters so I can vouch for its water tightness.
Although the dial comes in a few colors, the one I bought is of a really dark blue which looks black unless seen in solar light. There are 3 subdials; second hand, 10 minute interval and three hour interval. The subdials are the identical shade as the dial and are set in a tri compax configuration, which means they're placed at the three, 6 and 9 o'clock position. The date aperture is found between the 4 and 5 hour marker. I like this layout as it's the more unusual in the Windrider collection; most other watches include subdials at the 6, 9 and 12 o'clock position with the date aperture on the three hour marker.
The hour markers are just that; there are not any numerals, which provides it a really subtle look, I think. The markers along with the hour and minute hand are luminous as is the tip of the stopwatch second hand. Incidentally, the stopwatch second hand is properly counterbalanced with the Breitling 'B' logo.
Lastly, this AAA+ Breitling Replica is offered in chrome steel, 18k gold or two-tone. Mine is stainless-steel (the perfect end) and comes with the most effective watch straps you can presumably purchase, the Pilot strap; the slightly diagonal, chunky rectangular hyperlinks really are very attractive.
As I've mentioned I've had the Shadow Flyback for 7 years and apart from some minor scratches on the clasp there is not a mark on it. Since, buying it I've turn out to be an enormous fan of Breitling watches and it is my intention, after I save enough money, to purchase the Navitimer Comsonaute - another lovely timepiece.
